Sacré-Cœur: basilica, dome or panorama?
Three different experiences meet at the summit: the outdoor panorama, the sanctuary and the dome climb. Choose according to your time and mobility; a forecourt walk does not require booking a paid activity.
The short answer
What matters before you go.
The forecourt is enough for a view over Paris. Inside the basilica, visits take place alongside services and prayer. The dome has separate visiting conditions: check opening and price with the sanctuary before building your day around the climb.
Action plan
The route,
step by step.
Times and order are guideposts. Always adapt the visit to crowds, actual access and your group’s energy.
Start outside
Look at the façade and panorama before joining a queue. With a group, agree on a meeting point clear of doors and circulation routes.
Enter the sanctuary
Basilica admission is free. Remain quiet and respect areas reserved for prayer; appropriate clothing is requested.
Plan adapted access
The lift entrance is at the rear, 35 rue du Chevalier-de-la-Barre, from 8:30 am to 7 pm according to the sanctuary. Confirm availability if your visit depends on it.
Useful trade-offs
What really changes the visit.
Take photographs carefully
Photographs are prohibited in the nave and during services; they are allowed in the side aisles and ambulatory during visits.
Leave a buffer
Do not make a restaurant or museum booking depend on the exact length of the basilica queue.
Practical questions
Before confirming the route.
Do I need a paid ticket to enter?+
No for the basilica. Distinguish sanctuary admission from tour offers and paid activities.
Does the basilica lift provide dome access?+
The adapted entrance concerns the basilica. It is not a guarantee of dome access; check the dome conditions separately.
Check on the day
Official and practical sources.
Hours, outages, works, prices and access conditions change. For any important requirement, check the relevant source and contact the venue directly.
